Metropolitan of Sweden: Diplomatic mission strengthens friendship and diaspora unity

Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden of Sweden and All Scandinavia delivered an address at an official dinner held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Greek Ambassador’s Residence in Oslo, in honor of the newly appointed Ambassador of Greece to Norway, Efthymios Charlaftis.

The Metropolitan expressed his joy at the invitation and thanked the hosts for their warm hospitality, noting that the gathering offered a valuable opportunity to meet the Ambassador on the occasion of his assumption of duties. He emphasized that the Ambassador’s diplomatic mission is of particular importance, as it contributes to strengthening friendship and cooperation between Greece and Norway.

He also highlighted the significance of the Ambassador’s presence for the Greek diaspora, which views him as a vital link to the homeland and a source of support for its presence in Norway. Metropolitan Cleopas underlined that the Church actively supports every initiative that promotes unity and cooperation within the Greek community abroad.

Furthermore, he conveyed the blessings and best wishes of the Ecumenical Patriarch, Bartholomew I of Constantinople, and wished the new Ambassador health, strength, and success in his mission, expressing hope that his tenure would be both creative and fruitful.

In closing, the Metropolitan invited the Ambassador to visit the Metropolitan Church of the Annunciation in Oslo, where renovation works are currently underway, noting that the site is expected to become a vibrant center of spiritual life and community activity for the local Orthodox faithful.
