Management Shakeup at Safaricom with New Roles Created

There’s been a management shuffle at Kenya’s largest and most profitable company.

Safaricom PLC has announced a major overhaul to its senior management team and some new executive roles created including that of a Chief Customer Officer, being led by Sylvia Mulinge.

“In this regard, I have created the role of Chief Customer Officer which will be a commercial role responsible for end to end focus on the customer. It will comprise of Consumer Business, Sales Operations, Customer Service, Brand Marketing and experience, Digital and Market Development placing all aspects of customer engagement under one role.” read a statement from CEO Bob Collymore to the telco’s employees.

“Charles Wanjohi is confirmed at Director Consumer Business unit reporting to Chief Customer Officer,” says Bob Collymore.

In the process, Steve Okeyo, who has been Safaricom’s Director, Regional Sales & Operations has left the company under unclear circumstances.

Mr Joseph Ogutu, who has been the Director of Strategy & Innovation will take up a new role as Chief Special Projects Officer in charge of the telco’s foundation. Mr Ogutu will also be in charge of the newly created role of a Chief Business Development Officer in the interim.

Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, who rejoined  the company earlier this will be the Chief Financial Services Officer responsible for “growing Mpesa into a fully-fledged financial platform.
