Ksh 72 million stolen from Standard Chartered Bank’s ATM in Nairobi

Kshs 72 million was on Thursday, 6th September 2019, stolen from one of the ATMs belonging to Standard Chartered Bank in Nairobi West.

Part of the cash was stolen as G4S employees transported it in a van while the rest was withdrawn from the said ATM.

The G4S cash-in-transit personnel had collected money from their headquarters on Witu Road in South B, and were taking it to Standard Chartered’s Nairobi West branch.

The thieves, who had posed as police officers meant to escort the cash from the G4S headquarters, turned out to be robbers once they arrived at the ATM.

Later, they demanded for StanChart’s ATM passwords and withdrew more cash.

After the ordeal, they allegedly bundled the money into a Toyota Noah vehicle and made their escape after confiscating their victims’ phones.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into the matter after it was reported at the Langata police station through OB number 2/5/2019
