Kibaki undergoes succesful artery surgery in South Africa

Former President Kibaki has had a successful surgery on the carotid artery on his neck.

The former Head of State had been admitted to the Netcare Sunninghill Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa on Wednesday.

Sources said Kibaki successfully woke up from the delicate procedure that lasted one hour.

They said the ex-President had been taken to South Africa because his doctors did not want to take chance.

“The former Head of State is now up and has even talked to his family, he is now back to his wing and is being monitored,” the source said.

He will however be monitored for several days before he flies back to the country.

Kibaki’s family has not addressed the media over his health from Sunday when he was admitted to hospital; he was flown after falling ill at his Muthaiga home.

A visitor accompanying the family said Kibaki is recovering well at Johannesburg’s Netcare Sunninghill Hospital.
