Veteran lawyer John Khaminwa has called on the Kenyan government to recognize individuals who have made significant sacrifices for the country’s growth and development. Speaking at a memorial service for renowned lawyer and human rights activist Pheroze Nowrojee, Khaminwa expressed his sentiments in the presence of prominent politicians, including Kalonzo Musioka, Eugene Wamalwa, former Chief Justices David Maraga and Willy Mutunga.
Khaminwa lamented the current state of leadership in Kenya, describing the political class as lacking integrity and undeserving of respect from citizens. He cited ongoing demonstrations by young people as evidence of widespread discontent and a vote of no confidence in the current leadership.
While acknowledging the struggles faced by the youth today, Khaminwa reminded them that previous generations endured even greater hardships, including detention without trial, political assassinations, and crimes against humanity.
Khaminwa also highlighted the significant contributions of the Asian community to Kenya’s growth and development, citing examples such as Pio Gama Pinto, Yash Pal Ghai, and Pheroze Nowrojee. He called for greater representation of the Asian community and whites in the cabinet, referencing the appointment of Bruce McKenzie as a cabinet secretary in Jomo Kenyatta’s government.
The veteran lawyer urged Kenyans to demand change and replace the current crop of politicians with new leaders who can offer better leadership and vision for the country’s future.
