Kenyan Surgeon Marks 13 Years of Service in US Army

Kenyan-born orthopaedic surgeon Gladys Kipsang has marked 13 years of service in the United States Army, where she serves as a military doctor.
Kipsang has built a career defined by discipline and commitment. Her role has required early mornings, long hours, and extended periods away from family. She describes her experience as both demanding and fulfilling, noting that the structure and purpose of military life have shaped her professional path.
She also credits colleagues and her support network for helping her manage the pressures of service. Her milestone has been widely recognised. A recent social media post celebrating her career prompted messages of support from Kenyans and Americans. Former classmates and fellow soldiers praised her professional achievements, academic record, and athletic ability.
Another Kenyan, Mercy Koech, has followed a similar path in the US military. After being rejected by the Kenyan army due to her height, she later enlisted in the United States Navy.
Her service included deployment to Afghanistan, where she operated in a high-risk environment marked by frequent rocket attacks and constant alertness. Koech has spoken about the intensity of her experience and the demands of working in an active conflict zone.
