Kenyan Students Invited to Apply for Hungarian Scholarships

The Ministry of Education has opened applications for 200 scholarships under the Stipendium Hungaricum programme, offering Kenyan students an opportunity to study in Hungary during the 2026/27 academic year.
The scholarships are available at four levels of study: Bachelor’s, Master’s, One-Tier Master’s (OTM), and PhD. The online application portal will open on 15 November 2025 and close on 15 January 2026.
Applicants must also submit printed copies of their completed forms and supporting documents to the Ministry of Education by 16 January 2026 at 5:00 pm.
Students may apply for programmes in various fields. Undergraduate and Master’s applicants can pursue studies in disciplines such as agricultural science, computer science, law, economics, engineering, medicine, and natural sciences.
The OTM category, which combines undergraduate and postgraduate training, is open to fields including general medicine, dentistry, pharmacology, architecture, and veterinary medicine. PhD applicants may apply in any area of research.
Recipients will receive tuition-free education and accommodation support.
Depending on the host institution, students may be offered dormitory housing or a monthly housing allowance of HUF 40,000 (approximately KSh 15,512). All awardees will also receive medical insurance and a monthly stipend. Bachelor’s, Master’s, and OTM students will be entitled to HUF 43,700 (KSh 16,971) per month, while PhD candidates will receive HUF 140,000 (KSh 54,322) during their first four semesters and HUF 180,000 (KSh 69,868) in the remaining four.
Eligibility requirements differ by study level. Undergraduate applicants must have a minimum KCSE mean grade of B plain, obtained within the past three years, and be under 25 years of age.
Postgraduate applicants must hold at least an upper second-class honours degree and be under 38 years old. Doctoral applicants must possess a relevant Master’s degree and be below 45 years of age.
The application process involves two steps. Applicants must first complete the online form on the Stipendium Hungaricum website and submit it to the Tempus Public Foundation by 15 January 2026.
They must then print the completed application, attach the Ministry of Education’s standard scholarship form, and include certified copies of their identification documents, academic certificates, transcripts, and birth certificates. Postgraduate applicants must also include a study plan.
Those currently employed must submit their applications through their departmental heads before delivering them to the Ministry’s offices at Telposta Towers, Nairobi. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews via email or phone.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba announced the scholarship opportunity in August while presiding over the 6th Biennial Education Evidence for Action Conference at the University of Embu. The initiative aligns with the government’s goal of expanding access to international education and promoting academic exchange.
