Kenyan Embassy in Riyadh to Check Documents Before Eid Travel
The Kenyan Embassy in Riyadh has urged its citizens in Saudi Arabia to ensure their travel documents and residency status are valid ahead of expected Eid al-Fitr travel.
In an advisory, the embassy reminded Kenyan nationals to regularise their immigration status before making travel arrangements. It warned that failure to comply with Saudi regulations could lead to legal difficulties, particularly during a period when many expatriates plan to return home.
The mission highlighted the risks faced by individuals with unresolved “Hurub” cases, a classification used when a worker is reported to have absconded from an employer. It also noted that workers whose employment contracts have expired may face similar complications if their status is not settled.
According to the advisory, travellers in these situations could face arrest or detention in deportation centres if their documentation is not in order. Saudi authorities enforce immigration rules strictly, and unresolved cases may prevent individuals from leaving the country without proper clearance.
The embassy stressed that valid documentation is essential to avoid such outcomes. It advised Kenyans who require assistance to contact the mission for consular support.
Officials said the embassy can help with services such as emergency travel documents, guidance on exit procedures and other support needed to facilitate lawful departure.
The advisory comes as travel activity typically increases before Eid al-Fitr, one of the busiest periods for expatriates in the Gulf region. Many migrant workers travel home at this time to celebrate the holiday with their families.
The embassy urged Kenyan nationals to follow Saudi immigration regulations and cooperate with local authorities to ensure a smooth journey home.
