Kenyan Community Leader Alice Stroh Runs for Local Office in Germany

Alice Stroh, a Kenyan-born community organiser, is standing for election to the municipal council in Freigericht, Germany.

Stroh first came to Germany as an au pair and later pursued studies in German language and healthcare. She trained as a nurse and, while balancing work and family responsibilities, completed a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management in 2023.

Her engagement in civic affairs grew alongside her academic and professional development. She was elected co-chair of the Integration Commission, where she contributed to policy discussions on migration and community cohesion. Her work in the commission received support from the Christian Democratic Union faction, paving the way for her political candidacy.

Stroh’s campaign focuses on strengthening family support services, encouraging local investment, promoting voluntary service, and enhancing educational provision. She argues that these priorities address both community needs and principles of inclusive development.

Speaking on the role of diaspora communities in civic life, Stroh emphasised the importance of direct engagement with policymaking. She said that active participation allows immigrant communities to contribute to German society and ensure their voices are represented.
