Kenya, Morocco Sign Deal to Expand Study Opportunities for Students

Kenya and Morocco have signed a new agreement to expand access for Kenyan students to study in Moroccan universities and colleges.
The agreement was formalised on 9 April during the first Kenya–Morocco Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) held in Nairobi. It was signed by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba and sets out a framework for cooperation in higher education, including scholarships, internships, academic exchanges and joint research programmes.
Ogamba said the deal reflects a renewed focus on human capital development and aims to strengthen knowledge exchange and innovation. Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, described the partnership as an indication of shared priorities between the two countries.
He highlighted the importance of South–South cooperation and said the agreement supports a broader effort to advance sustainable development across Africa. In addition to education, the JCC resulted in 11 agreements covering sectors such as agriculture, health, justice, fisheries, gender, culture, sports, wildlife and diplomatic relations.
The government recently signed a separate deal with Italy to upgrade 70 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions with new equipment, reinforcing its focus on preparing young people for the global workforce. The Kenya–Morocco agreement is expected to improve access to scholarships and collaborative academic programmes.
