Kenya Envoys Urged to ‘Sell the Country’ as 19th Ambassadors’ Conference Opens in Nairobi

Kenya’s 19th Ambassadors’ Conference opened at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi with a firm directive to the country’s envoys to aggressively promote the nation’s image and investment opportunities abroad. The four-day meeting, convened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brings together ambassadors and high commissioners from missions worldwide under the theme “Advancing Kenya’s interests in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.”

Opening the conference, President William Samoei Ruto called on diplomats to adopt a results-driven approach focused on economic diplomacy, trade, and investment attraction. He urged envoys to “project and protect” Kenya’s image and to position the country as a competitive hub for investors, building on recent gains in foreign direct investment and macroeconomic stability.

The President’s address highlighted Kenya’s reforms aimed at improving the business environment, including efforts to deepen partnerships in priority sectors such as agriculture, ICT, green industrialisation, and financial services. He also linked the conference to broader government initiatives, including the Kenya International Investment Conference (KIICO 2026), which seeks to channel new capital into high-impact sectors.

Sessions at Safari Park are expected to examine how missions can better engage the Kenyan diaspora, expand export markets, and align foreign policy with national development goals. Officials indicated that envoys will be tasked with clear performance benchmarks tied to investment promotion, tourism growth, and strategic partnerships in their host countries.

For Kenya’s global diaspora, the deliberations underscore their growing role as economic and soft-power partners, through remittances, enterprise, and advocacy for the country’s interests abroad. As the conference continues in Nairobi, attention will focus on how quickly the new diplomatic push translates into tangible investment flows and enhanced international visibility for Kenya.
