IEBC trains staff on Continuous Voter Registration ahead of elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has convened its staff for the Continuous Voter Registration training in Naivasha.

The training led by IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon comes ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

IEBC said the mmission carries the weight of Kenya’s democratic destiny.

The Commission reminded its staff that they are more than officers behind a desk and they are the living face of Kenya’s democracy, from the remotest polling station in Turkana to the headquarters in Nairobi.

“You are the face of the Commission. How you serve, communicate and carry yourselves defines what Kenyans think of the IEBC,” Ethekon told them.

The training is in line with its constitutional mandate under Article 88(4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

IEBC said the exercise is a vital step in ensuring that every eligible Kenyan has the opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s future through democratic elections.

According to the Commission, the training is particularly directed towards young people who have recently attained 18 years, and all citizens who have not yet registered or need to update their voter information.

In early September, Ethekon noted that in readiness for the CVR exercise, the Commission initiated a series of preparatory activities to ensure the process is efficient, inclusive, and transparent.

He said the activities are critical for laying a strong foundation for a successful nationwide rollout.

The activities includes Mapping of Registration Centres by verifying both existing and proposed centres to ensure accessibility across the country.

Stakeholder Engagements by holding consultative forums at the constituency level to build awareness and promote participation.

Geospatial Data Consolidation that includes collecting constituency, county, and national-level data to guide resource planning.

Preparation of Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) Kits that configure and tests KIEMS kits.

Packaging and Distribution of Materials through timely dispatch of registration materials to all operational areas.

Data Protection Compliance by conducting a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) to ensure full compliance with data protection laws.

“Eligible Kenyans may register at any IEBC Constituency Office, except in areas currently with by-elections. Services available include new voter registration, transfer of voter registration to a new location, correction or update of voter details, and inspection of voter registration status,” Ethekon said.
