How Akothee’s Daughter Secured Her Place at Oxford University

Vesha Akello, the daughter of Kenyan celebrity Akothee, has embarked on a new academic journey at Oxford Brookes University, where she is pursuing a Master’s in Global Marketing.
At 28, Vesha has already made a name for herself as a businesswoman, serving as a director at Akothee Safaris and co-founding Savvy House, a marketing agency. A graduate of Strathmore University in Nairobi, her decision to further her studies in the United Kingdom came after careful consideration, planning, and consultations with her mother.
The path to her admission was not without challenges. Vesha faced visa requirements that demanded proof of significant financial resources, and delays in processing raised doubts about her ability to begin the programme in January 2026. When approval finally came in February, she celebrated the moment with tears of relief and shared the news with her mother.
Now enrolled in the two-year programme, Vesha is adjusting to the demands of independent study and the cultural differences of life in the UK. While London’s diversity excites her, she acknowledges that building lasting friendships requires more effort than in Kenya. Academically, she has found the UK environment to be one that encourages active participation and self-discipline.
Vesha’s course covers key areas such as global strategy, digital marketing, artificial intelligence solutions, and international brand management. She hopes to apply these skills not only in business but also in organisations such as the United Nations, where marketing can drive social impact.
Her ambition is shaped by the strong work ethic and resilience of her mother and grandmother. Vesha credits them with instilling in her the drive to succeed, describing mediocrity as something she finds unacceptable.
