Hands Off My Husband, Kihika Tells Gachagua After Rally Remarks

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has publicly rebuked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of repeatedly directing personal attacks at her and her husband during recent political engagements.
In a statement issued on Monday, Kihika criticised Gachagua’s remarks at a political rally in Kinamba, Naivasha, saying he focused largely on disparaging her family instead of presenting policy positions or a national agenda. She said most of his speech was devoted to personal insults and offered no indication of what he would do for the country if elected to office.
While stating that Gachagua remains free to visit Nakuru County, the governor warned against what she described as inflammatory and divisive rhetoric. She said such conduct would not be acceptable in Nakuru, which she described as a diverse and cosmopolitan county.
Kihika was responding to claims by Gachagua that the National Police Service in Nakuru had been compromised and placed under the influence of her husband. He alleged that during his visit to Kinamba Trading Centre, police officers erected a roadblock to hinder his movement, resulting in public harassment before the barrier was removed.
Gachagua also cited earlier incidents in Mai Mahiu and Naivasha, where he claimed police actions disrupted his meetings. He alleged that some junior officers had privately complained about being used to advance political interests.
The governor dismissed the accusations, describing them as unfounded and intended to intimidate her family and discredit her administration. She suggested that Gachagua’s repeated references to her husband were linked to past business disputes.
In a message posted on X, Kihika accused Gachagua of attempting to extort her spouse, claiming he had refused to comply with demands for what she termed a “protection fee”.
