Half of Kenyans Live in Poverty Due to Stupidity of Ethnicity, Deputy President William Ruto Say

Deputy President William Ruto says the “stupidity of ethnicity” is the reason why 50% of the Kenyan population lives in poverty while 16 million people are unemployed.

Ruto through a post on Twitter described the conversation about the ‘hustler’ as an indication of political revolution in Kenya. He was reacting to a newspaper story titled “Ruto and Raila Clash over Hustler Narrative.”

“Finally we have the conversation of our lifetime: the hustler. Until now our politics was hostage to the stupidity of ethnicity/our person. Which is the reason why almost half of Kenyans live in poverty &16m are jobless. The tribeless hustler imperative is a revolution in our politics,” Ruto tweeted.

Over the weekend, Ruto and Raila traded words over the former’s use of the term hustler to endear himself to voters ahead of the 2022 presidential election.

Odinga indicated that there is nothing special with Ruto calling himself a ‘hustler’, saying that the first three Kenyan presidents—Kenyatta, Moi, and Kibaki—came from humble backgrounds.

“I’m the son of the late Jaramogi Odinga, his father was a peasant, look at all the Kenyan presidents, Kenyatta, Kibaki and Moi, they all began poor, they were all hustlers,” Raila said, adding that leaders should focus on selling their agenda to the electorate.

In response to Odinga, Ruto said: “Now that the country is in agreement that Kenya is a hustling nation, leaders should respect the hustle of every single Kenyan.”
