American R&B singer Kelis has quietly entered Kenya’s real estate market after purchasing approximately 300 acres of land in Naivasha for an estimated KSh25 million (under $200,000).
The property, overlooking Mount Longonot and bordering a wildlife corridor, is set to be transformed into a high-end wellness retreat featuring luxury accommodation and a restaurant. The development aims to blend eco-conscious living with premium hospitality.
Kelis, whose net worth is estimated at about $3 million, says the investment is rooted in more than profit. She plans to promote sustainable agriculture, create jobs for locals, and support community development initiatives. Solar-powered fencing is also planned to prevent elephants and other wildlife from crossing into the property.
The acquisition has sparked debate in the rapidly growing Naivasha region, with some welcoming the foreign investment while others raise questions about international land ownership in one of Kenya’s fastest-expanding tourism and luxury hubs.
