Family Seeks Justice After Man Killed in CS Duale Convoy Crash

A 23-year-old man, Hillary Kiptoo Longi, was killed on 8 March in a road accident involving a vehicle from Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale’s convoy along the Kisumu–Busia highway at Otonglo.
Kiptoo was travelling in a tuk-tuk when it was struck by a Ministry of Health Prado, an incident that also claimed the lives of two other passengers. He had recently deferred his university admission due to financial difficulties.
Three weeks after the accident, Kiptoo’s body remains at Kiminini Cottage Hospital mortuary. His family says the investigation is proceeding slowly, and they have not received government assistance. The only support so far came from Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli, who helped transfer the body from Kisumu to Kiminini.
Kiptoo’s father, Joseph Longin, described the loss as devastating, noting that he had already sold part of his land to educate his children. “It is heartbreaking and painful that he has died at such a young age, just as he was preparing to join university,” he said.
His mother, Beatrice Wamukota, called for a thorough investigation and compensation. Relatives and community members have expressed frustration over the stalled inquiry. Henry Kinisu, a family member, said, “We are deeply affected because we do not have funds to give him a proper send-off. All we hope is that the family gets justice.”
