Equity Bank Customers Hit by System Downtime Affecting Mobile Banking App

Equity Bank customers across the country reported difficulties accessing mobile banking, USSD, and ATM services on Saturday, November 1, due to a system outage.

The bank confirmed the outage and said its technical team is working to restore services as soon as possible. Customers were urged to remain patient while the issue is resolved.

“We are experiencing an intermittent service downtime on Equity Mobile App, Equity Online, EazzyBiz, USSD (*247#), Equitel, PDQ machines and Cards,” read the bank’s statement.

“Our technical team is working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience during this time.”

Users trying to access services using the Equity App received a message stating, System Downtime: We are experiencing intermittent system downtime on this channel. Kindly bear with us as the technical team works to restore the services.”

The disruption affected key services, with many customers taking to social media to express frustration over failed transactions and delays.

The bank has assured customers that its technical team is working to restore normal operations.

Equity Bank Customers Decry System Outage

Several users took to social media, including on Equity Bank Kenya’s Facebook page, to express their concerns, saying they were unable to access their funds or complete transactions. 

Caleb Okari questioned the bank’s reliability, asking, “Give an alternative way of accessing funds if mobile banking and the app will always be failing.”

On his part, Kennedy Juma expressed disappointment, noting, “So you’ve gone fully mobile? USSD is not working, I’m disappointed.”

Duncan Juma simply confirmed the issue, stating, “System is down.”

Kelvin Alphan Mghanga highlighted the inconvenience, saying, “ATM withdrawal not working.”

Benjamin Miguel wondered about the cause, asking, “Where did Equity go?”

Equity Bank Kenya had previously announced a planned six-hour maintenance affecting its “send money to other banks” service across its digital banking channels, including Equity Mobile App, Equity Online, EazzyBiz, 247#, and Equitel.

The bank issued a notice on Tuesday, September 23, stating that the services will be unavailable from Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 10:00 PM to Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 4:00 AM.

Equity Bank Announces 6-Hour Planned Maintenance

The bank noted that all other services would remain available during the scheduled maintenance.

“Dear Member, Due to a planned system maintenance, send money to other banks service on Equity Mobile App, Equity Online, EazzyBiz, *247# and Equitel will be unavailable from Tuesday, 23/9/2025 10:00PM to Wednesday, 24/9/2025 at 4:00 AM,” read the notice in part.

“All other services remain available. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
