EACC Boss Dr Oginde’s Prayer Sparks Eyebrows at State House

During a solemn ceremony at State House, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Chairperson Dr David Oginde delivered a powerful and spiritually charged prayer that stirred both reflection and discussion. As President William Ruto prepared to sign a significant piece of legislation into law, Dr Oginde invoked vivid biblical examples, including the story of Achan at Jericho, the deceit of Ananias and Sapphira, and the betrayal by Judas Iscariot. His message drew strong parallels between these scriptural accounts and modern-day corruption in Kenya.

The prayer carried a strong warning to public officials and institutions. Dr Oginde called on divine justice, praying that anyone who conspires to undermine the new law or embezzle public resources would not only face the justice of the land but also the justice of heaven. The directness and tone of the prayer drew mixed reactions, sparking conversations across the country about the role of faith and morality in governance.

While many Kenyans applauded the bold stand against corruption and praised the spiritual depth of the message, others expressed concern over the merging of religious messaging with state functions. Nevertheless, the prayer added weight to the occasion, reminding leaders of the moral responsibility they bear in serving the nation with integrity and accountability.
