Dalphine’s Dream: How a Kenyan Teen Became a U.S. Family Physician”

“From DV Lottery to Doctor: A Kenyan Woman’s 22-Year Journey of Faith and Determination”
A Kenyan woman who moved to the United States through the Diversity Visa (DV) lottery 22 years ago has shared an inspiring journey of determination, resilience, and faith
Dalphine Kaniaru left Kenya at the age of 19 after completing only two months at Moi University, where she had been admitted to study nursing. Despite her circumstances, she carried a bigger dream of becoming a medical doctor an ambition that once seemed out of reach due to limited opportunities and financial constraints.
Upon arriving in the U.S., she remained committed to her goal, even as many doubted her chances. Along the way, she found support in friends who encouraged her and in her husband, James, who stood by her and helped her navigate the challenging application process.
Through persistence and determination, she achieved her dream and became a medical doctor in the United States. She is now board-certified in Family Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine and has spent years serving patients in a rural clinic.
Reflecting on her journey, she expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities she received, the people who supported her, and her faith in God. Her story stands as a powerful reminder that with courage and persistence, even the most distant dreams can become reality.
