Defection Wave: Inside Jayne Kihara’s Split from Gachagua
Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara has officially severed ties with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, delivering a major political setback to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader.
Kihara has since aligned herself with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), marking yet another high-profile exit from Gachagua’s camp.
Sources close to Kihara confirmed that her decision was driven by mounting frustration over what she described as “unrealistic financial expectations” placed on MPs allied to Gachagua.
The fallout, insiders say, has been brewing for months as several legislators expressed dissatisfaction with the former deputy president’s leadership style and internal party management.
Her defection follows a series of quiet but high profile exits from Gachagua’s circle in the last few days, as former allies, including Juja MP George Koimburi and Gathoni Wamuchomba of Githunguri, switch back to William Ruto’s fold to reposition themselves ahead of 2027.
The latest blow to Gachagua came just a day after he hosted Wakili Njoroge Ngigi, an aspiring MP for Naivasha Constituency under the DCP banner.
Ngigi, who is expected to challenge Kihara for the seat, has been touted as one of Gachagua’s key allies in Nakuru County.
