Charles Kanjama Elected LSK President After Closely Contested Vote

Charles Kanjama has been elected president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), securing 3,728 votes in a closely contested race.
His main competitor, Peter Wanyama, received 2,616 votes, while Mwaura Kabata finished third with 2,086 votes. Kanjama’s campaign focused on the RIPE agenda, Rule of Law, Integrity and Independence, Practice, and Engagement, which he pledged to implement through structured governance.
Key initiatives include the completion of Wakili Towers, the creation of an LSK Training Institute for Continuous Professional Development (CPD), and enhanced welfare programmes, including partnerships with the LSK Sacco and the Advocates Benevolent Association.
Voter turnout, however, was low, with only 8,600 of the 26,000 registered members casting their ballots. Both Wanyama and gospel singer Reuben Kigame raised concerns over the society’s internal democracy and the potential for digital voting solutions to increase engagement.
Outgoing president Faith Odhiambo congratulated Kanjama and expressed confidence in his leadership. Senior Counsel Kalonzo Musyoka also endorsed his agenda, highlighting the importance of his commitment to publishing an annual rule of law report.
