Bomet court slaps man with 50-year jail term and Ksh.50M fine for bhang possession

A court in Bomet County has sentenced a man to 50 years in jail and further slapped him with a fine a fine of Ksh. 50 million for possession and trafficking bhang.
According to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the accused, Bernard Miyeiende Kerongo, was intercepted on March 22, 2024 at around 5:55 p.m. in Mulot town along the Bomet–Narok highway while transporting ten sacks of cannabis weighing 278 kilograms, valued at Ksh. 8,340,000.

The drugs were concealed in a Toyota Noah with registration number KBZ 667Z, in clear violation of the law.

Senior Principal Magistrate Stephen Onjoro handed down the hefty sentence, emphasizing the State’s commitment to dismantling narcotics networks operating along key transit routes.

Mr. Kerongo was further ordered to pay the Ksh. 50 million fine, or in default, serve an additional five years in prison.
