Body of Edna Mmbali Ombakho Found in River Thames as Investigations Continue

The body of Edna Mmbali Ombakho has been found in the River Thames near Wraysbury, as investigations continue and a coroner’s report is awaited.
The Kenyan community in the United Kingdom is mourning her death while seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are continuing their inquiries, with the coroner’s findings expected to provide further detail.
Edna is survived by her parents, Dr George Ombakho and Beatrice Shitambasi, her siblings Dr Elsie Ombakho and Jesse Ombakho, and extended family members across several countries. The family has requested privacy and prayers as they grieve.
In response, Kenyans in the UK, the United States, and Kenya have organised support efforts. A coordination committee made up of family members, friends, and community leaders has been meeting online to plan memorial arrangements and offer assistance.
The group is chaired by Aggrey Kanyanga of the Kenya Community in the UK, working alongside Councillor Dr Elizabeth Kangethe, Lydia Olet, Peter Mbugua, and Monicah Kariuki. Religious leaders have also played a central role in supporting the bereaved.
Reverend Moses Simiyu of River of Life Christian Fellowship Church and his team have provided pastoral care to both the family and the wider community.
A memorial service held on 15 March 2026 brought together members of the Kenyan diaspora to honour Edna’s life.
Kenya’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, Ambassador Makoloo Maurice, and his deputy, Dr Joseph Warui, attended the service.
