Belgium Manager Dies While on Duty in Nairobi

Belgium national women’s sevens team coach Warren Abrahams has died at the age of 43.

The former Wales women’s head coach lost his life while he was coaching the Belgium team at the Safari Sevens tournament in Nairobi.

The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) confirmed his demise in a statement  on Sunday, October 12, where it revealed that the coach  passed away on Friday, October 10.

KRU mourned him as a passionate professional who had a “dedication to the game”.

“The Kenya Rugby Union deeply mourns the untimely demise of Warren Abrahams, Coach of the Belgium National Sevens Team, who passed away on Friday, October 10, while on tour for the 2025 Safari Sevens in Nairobi,” a statement from Kenya rugby read.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Belgium Rugby fraternity during this difficult time. Warren’s passion, professionalism, and dedication to the game will be fondly remembered by all.”

Belgium National Women Sevens Coach Warren Abrahams Dies 

The Belgian rugby federation also confirmed the Warren’s death, stating that it was saddened by the sudden loss.

“Belgium Rugby is in mourning following the sudden death of Warren Abrahams, head coach of the BelSevens,” announced the Belgium Rugby Federation.

“[We] will continue to support Warren’s family, the team, and all at Belgium Rugby in every possible way during this difficult time.”

Warren’s former club Harlequins also took to social media to pay tribute to him.

The club stated that Warren made an enduring impact on the club during his time with the Academy from 2011 to 2019.

“Everyone at Harlequins is deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of former Academy Coach, Warren Abrahams (1982 – 2025),” the club posted on X.

“His passion, leadership and commitment to developing players were felt not only at Harlequins, but throughout the wider rugby world during his distinguished career.”

By the time of publishing, the cause of his death remains unknown.

Warrens’ Coaching Career

Abrahams coached Harlequins’ academy between 2011 and 2019 and went on to work on the sevens management teams with the USA women and England men.

He was appointed head coach of Wales women in November 2020 but left the following summer after less than nine months in the role.

He also held roles with the USA sevens and the England Sevens men’s team.

Hailing from the Western Cape in South Africa, Abrahams played his rugby for Durbanville‐Bellville and Stellenbosch University before transitioning into coaching.
