Atwoli criticizes Martha Karua over new party colour choice, claims purple belongs to COTU

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has criticized political parties using the colour purple, claiming it was patented by COTU in 2008.

He warned that any political group adopting the colour would be violating the law.

Atwoli’s statement comes just hours after Martha Karua rebranded NARC-Kenya into the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), using purple, lilac, and white colours.

In addition, Atwoli dismissed the formation of an opposition coalition, stating that they collectively lack the numbers to unseat President William Ruto.

He also urged Kenyans to join workers’ unions to avoid feeling the burden of increased taxation on their payslips.

“I don’t see where Martha is taking purple because it is known. Kenyans must know that purple colour is a workers’ colour, so anyone trying to use it as mileage is wasting their time,” he said.

“I don’t want Karua and her party to appear bigger than it seems.”
