Alan Kiplimo extradited for the death of Caleb Leriano in Australia

In a significant development for a case that has shocked the Kenyan community in Australia, 22-year-old Alan Kiplimo has been extradited from Perth to Adelaide to face a murder charge following the death of Caleb Leriano.

The extradition follows a rapid investigation by South Australia Police (SAPOL) into what was initially reported as a routine traffic accident in the southern suburbs of Adelaide.

On the morning of Wednesday, March 11, 2026, emergency services were called to Morphett Vale after a BMW sedan, driven by 24-year-old Caleb Leriano, collided with a power pole. Mr. Leriano, a respected chef originally from Kenya, was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries but tragically passed away shortly after.

Major Crash investigators and Homicide South Australia detectives quickly determined that the victim’s injuries were inconsistent with the low-speed impact of the crash. Forensic evidence suggested that Mr. Leriano had been violently assaulted prior to the vehicle coming to a stop.

Following a multi-state manhunt, Western Australia Police arrested Kiplimo on Friday, March 13, in Perth’s northeastern suburbs. On Saturday, March 14, Kiplimo appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court, where detectives successfully applied for his extradition to South Australia.

Kiplimo did not apply for bail during the brief hearing. He is expected to arrive in Adelaide under police escort this evening, where he will be formally charged with murder.

The death of Caleb Leriano has sent ripples through the Kenyan community across Australia. In a poignant statement released by the Kenyan Community in Victoria (KCV)—popularly known as Watu wa West—members expressed deep shock and sorrow at the loss of “Munga.”

The KCV described him as a valued and respected member of the community, highlighting the profound impact his death has had on his peers. Tributes have flooded social media, with friends describing the talented chef as a “bright light” and calling for swift justice as legal proceedings begin.
