50-Page Passport Discontinued: Applicants Must Pay KSh 12,500 for 66-Page Version
Kenyans applying for passports are facing higher costs after the government removed lower-priced options from the eCitizen platform, leaving only the most expensive version available.
A review of the eCitizen portal reveals that the 66-page passport, priced at KSh 12,500, is now the sole option for adult applicants. The 50-page version, which previously cost KSh 9,500, has been withdrawn, following the earlier discontinuation of the 34-page passport in July 2025.
The 34-page booklet, priced at KSh 7,500, was the most affordable option before it was removed due to operational and supply challenges. The government has not provided a clear explanation or timeline for restoring these cheaper alternatives.
The removal of the 50-page passport option means that the minimum cost for acquiring a Kenyan passport has risen to KSh 12,500. This increase has added to the financial burden of individuals, especially first-time applicants and those seeking work abroad. In addition to the passport fee, applicants must also cover costs for medical exams, visas, police clearance certificates, and airfare.
