22-Year-Old Arrested in Australia Over Death of Kenyan Chef Caleb Leriano

Australian police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the death of Kenyan chef Caleb Leriano in Adelaide.

The suspect, Alan Kiplimo, was detained in Western Australia while attempting to leave the state and is being extradited to South Australia, where he is expected to face a murder charge. Leriano, 24, was discovered dead inside a crashed vehicle in Morphett Vale, a suburb south of Adelaide.

Emergency services initially treated the scene as a road accident. However, medical examiners later found that his injuries did not match those normally caused by a traffic collision, prompting detectives to begin a homicide investigation.

Police believe Leriano drove his red BMW to Sapphire Reserve in the early hours of Wednesday to meet someone. Investigators allege that he was assaulted during the meeting and that his vehicle was later left at the crash site. Detectives used tracking technology and CCTV footage to follow Kiplimo’s movements across state lines before locating and arresting him in Perth.

Leriano had moved to Australia in 2025 after graduating from Kenya’s Utalii College. He was working as a chef, mainly in aged-care and disability support facilities. Authorities in South Australia are continuing their investigation as Kiplimo prepares to appear in court in Adelaide.
